The Ohio Valley Ski Council promotes and facilitates winter sports activities (primarily snow skiing and boarding) and year-round, world-wide tourism opportunities on behalf of sixteen member ski and winter sports clubs in the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana (the Ohio Valley) geographic region including Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky and northwestern West Virginia-southeastern Ohio; and serving persons in this tri-state region with common interests in winter sports and related social activities and national and international travel opportunities. The OVSC is affiliated with the National Ski Council Federation (NSCF), which provides linkages and information services dealing with ski council and club governance, tour operations and operators, ski areas, resorts, tourism bureaus, safety, trip insurance, and equipment innovations and vendors, i.e., the winter sports industry and national and international travel in general.
The clubs include: Alpine, Cincinnati, Columbus, Corbeau, Dayton, Huntington, Indianapolis, Kittyhawk, Lafayette Ski & Snowboard Club, Lexington, Louisville, Newark, Ohio Valley Ski Club, Sandusky, Skiers, Ltd., and Tri-State. Combined, our clubs include nearly 5,000 skiers and boarders in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia.
The OVSC board includes executive officers, trip and race directors, and representatives of all our local clubs. Their primary function is to provide ski and racing opportunities to our member clubs. The board meets every two to three months in the Cincinnati area, which is roughly our geographic center.
The OVSC organizes a series of trips each year that are open to the members of all OVSC clubs. We generally offer two annual North American ski trips, a European trip that combines skiing with touring opportunities, a summer ski trip to take advantage of the snow south of the equator, and a two-month racing program at regional and western resorts. Most of our local clubs participate in these offerings. Each of our clubs adds their own exciting compliment of ski trips, sports and social activities for their members.
The OVSC sponsors an annual Summit in late spring to enable member clubs to come together for opportunities to learn about skiing and snowboarding, to meet with equipment and snow sports destination representatives, to experiences fun activities specific to the Summit locale, and to enjoy seeing old friends and meeting new ones!
OVSC is a member of the National Ski Council Federation (SkiFederation.org
). The NSCF is an educational organization providing support to 24 councils across the country.
